Herzlichen Glückwunsch Samuel!
Happy Birthday Sam!
Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann was born on the 10th of April 1755 in Meissen, Germany. Hahnemann is the founder of Homeopathy.
(He died on the 2nd of July 1843 in Paris, France)
Homeopathy is the complementary healthcare approach developed by the Samuel Hahnemann. It differs from conventional medicine as it is holistic. It considers each patient as an individual within his or her own environment. Homeopathy takes into account the symptoms of disease of a patient on the mental, the emotional, and the physical plane. It does not treat a disease label, or the part of the body that appears ill. It aims to heal the root cause of disease.
Homeopathic medicines, referred to as remedies, are ultra-highly diluted. This is a prime tenet of homeopathy. Produced from minute amounts of medicinally valuable substances of herb, mineral and animal origin, the ultra high dilution establishes the medicines effective quality while removing their toxicity. This process is called potentization, and involves serial dilution and succussion. Succussion refers to the rhythmical shaking of the diluted substance at different stages of the production process.
The second main premise of homeopathy is the principle ‘like cures like’. This means that symptoms of illness are treated with a remedy that if ingested by a healthy person, will give him or her similar symptoms to the illness. For example, slicing onions is likely to cause teary eyes and a runny nose. Following the homeopathic principle, the homeopathic remedy produced from the onion (Allium cepa) is a useful medicine for the symptoms of runny eyes and sniffy nose that are experienced in hay fever. Another good example is Coffee. Like a cup of Coffee can be stimulating and can cause sleeplessness, the homeopathic remedy made from Coffee (Coffea cruda) should be thought of for the treatment of nervous excitement and insomnia.
The worldwide popularity and extensive use of Homeopathy is growing. Homeopathy is practiced in 40 of 42 European countries, with approximately 100 million people in Europe using homeopathy. The WHO, the World Health Organization, estimates that over 500 million people rely on it worldwide. Next to conventional medicine Homeopathy is the second most used system of medicine in the world.
The jury verdict, in the case of deceptive advertising against Boiron, the producers of Oscillococcinum (‘Oscillo), favourded Boiron’s presentation that the remedy Oscillo is able to relieve of flu-like symptoms.
The advertising was deemed as not false as the evidence provided by Boiron undermining the claims of efficacy of Oscillo were sufficient to conclude that the remedy could be effective for the treatment of flu-like symptoms.

In Switzerland, Homeopathy, phytomedicine, anthroposophic medicine, traditional chinese medicine and acupuncture are to receive the same status as conventional medicine, when it comes to the reimbursement of health care costs . The local mandatory health-insurance provider of Switzerland will continue to cover the expenses of these 5 CAM therapies.
Initially, since 2012, the payment of these health care approaches had only been provisional.
The ministry of interior has now argued that the provision of evidence of efficacy, convenience, and profitability of these CAM approaches, will never entirely be possible, and has consequently decided to assume the principle of trust for these health care approaches.
The decree will be brought to hearing in June 2016 , and is aimed at coming into effect in May 2017. As such, a continued provision of access to these CAM therapies will be warranted.
